Hispanic Outreach

Hispanic youth across the country, and especially in Silicon Valley, continue to face daunting educational and economic challenges. With barriers in language and in culture, many Hispanic youth struggle through school, with a dropout rate close to 40%. For those who stay in school, many students feel limited

in their career possibilities, and find it hard to connect the relevance of school to success in the workplace.

Our goal for 2009-2010 is to continue to expand our in-school programs, and also embark on different delivery models through a variety of vehicles. The demand for Latino volunteers is high and efforts to recruit volunteers are continuous and we look to improve and enhance

the curriculum that is offered through Junior Achievement. If you are interested in being a volunteer in a classroom or being apart of our Hispanic Initiative Task Force, please contact Maria Prado, mprado@siliconvalley.ja.org or 408-988-8915 ext 215
