JA in Silicon Valley

The Real World

If I can help dispel some of the mystery about how the business world operates, I think that’s an hour well spent.

Founded in the U.S. in 1919 and in San Jose in 1953, Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay is part of the world's largest K – 12 economic education youth organization. At no cost to schools, JA Worldwide teaches seven million elementary, middle, and high school students about business, economics, and free enterprise in over 100 countries each year. Locally, we are improving the

quality of life for students in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito Counties (85% of our programs are in Santa Clara County).Since 1953, over 500,000 local youth have benefited from JA’s partnership with businesses, communities and schools from Silicon Valley to Monterey Bay.

Using the Junior Achievement curriculum in the classroom, business volunteers teach

K – 12th grade students how to apply critical thinking and school skills set to solving real-world problems. These role models bring a realistic perspective to the classroom covering business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy, career development, and workforce readiness—with a “stay in school” message woven throughout the program.
